A beautiful young girl, Adele, flits from one tragic situation to the next, seemingly all stemming from her bad luck. One day, she decides to jump off a bridge and end it all. She's saved by an older man, Gabor, who is a knife thrower. He convinces her she has good luck and that together, they can work together in his act. They work several increasingly dangerous shows, each increasing the intensity and risk-taking nature of their relationship. Indeed, Adele and Gabor substitute knife-throwing for the sexual component in their relationship. It's a well crafted movie where you feel for the characters and understand how they end up in their situations. It's also a nice, real love story instead of a sex-filled romp like many movies have devolved into. Watch it; you won't be sorry.
SPOILER ALERT:
Adele ends up leaving Gabor for yet another in a string of losers and they both fall apart without each other. I won't give away the ending, but it's fitting and well done.
